Welcome to the Blog!

Thank you for stopping by my little corner of cyber space. I will start by letting you know a little about me. I am a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist based out of Knoxville, TN. My areas of interest include language, reading, and writing. For the past 10 years I have worked in several capacities at a local private practice specializing in pediatric rehabilitation. I was an office aide, therapy assistant, clinical fellow, and for the last 7 years a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. This year I will be venturing into entrepreneurship. I am starting this blog for many reasons. Primarily I want a way to relay tips, strategies, and new research findings to the families and students I work with. Also, this blog will hold me accountable for staying in touch with new technology and techniques so that I continue to offer best practice therapy to my students. Finally, I really I want to connect with those who share my interests and treatment philosophies, and those families who feel lost and are looking for direction on how to help their children succeed in language, reading, and writing. I am hoping to post updates weekly. If you would like to subscribe to updates send your email address to info@kandimcmahan.com. I would also love to hear questions you may have, or topics you would like more information about.

The next post will answer the question “Why are we being referred to a speech-therapist for reading intervention when my child can speak very clearly??”
Stay tuned for that one :)
