Reading is a multi-faceted process involving letter and word recognition, auditory processing, oral fluency, comprehension, and motivation. Successful reading programs include components from each of the facets above. One boxed reading program does not fit all. After a thorough evaluation, a customized individual intervention plan is developed to fit the unique needs of each child. Appropriate actives will be selected from researched based programs including Wilson Reading, Lindamood-Bell, Signature Reading, and Visualizing and Verbalizing for reading comprehension. Following a developmental hierarchy of skill development, delayed areas of ability are addressed until acceptable levels are achieved. Specific techniques include: word chunking, rapid recall, fluency drills, choral reading, visualization, intonation training, and test-taking strategies for multiple choice assessments.
